The Ones who Do

“The people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do.” — Steve Jobs

It really annoys me when someone tells me there is nothing I can do to change the way our world is. Why? Because the only way to change the world is to not give in to despair and the idea that there is nothing to be done. If we give up on the dream of creating a world that works for all we become the problem.

So, what do we do? We keep living, loving, dreaming and believing. It all starts with one person brave enough to love their neighbor, dream a new dream, hope, share a new idea, and see a new way of doing things.

Be crazy enough to think you can change the world. You just might.

It’s Okay to Just be Happy

“It’s okay to be happy with yourself for all that you are and aren’t. It’s okay to accept that life will not always be a “win-win”. Its okay to fall and pick yourself back up. It’s okay to be different and not be accepted by the crowd. Its okay to be on that journey of little beginnings. Your happiness should never be overburdened or compromised by none of your life choices. It’s okay to just be happy”
― Chinonye J. Chidolue

We hear a lot that it is okay to not be okay. And of course that is true. No one should have to pretend to be doing okay if they really aren’t and there is no shame in asking for help when needed.

But it is also okay to be happy. In times of darkness and struggle we all need those little sparks of joy to keep us going. Happiness is contagious. Be a carrier.

Walking into Autumn

We celebrated the Autumnal Equinox earlier this week. I am reposting an oldie but goodie originally posted in 2013 but just a relevant as ever.

With the Autumnal Equinox the journey toward winter began.  For many this is a time of planning and preparation, making sure homes and vehicles are ready for the impending cold.  Squirrels are busily burying nuts so they will have food for winter.  Our daily lives begin to change as we dig out the winter clothes and soup recipes.  This flurry of activity is in preparation to settle in and hunker down as the weather gets colder and colder.

As the earth prepares to slow down, this is our chance to slow down as well.  With the cooler weather we can now begin cooking meals requiring lengthy times in the oven.  The smell of fresh baked bread may begin to fill the kitchen.  We are more inclined to settle in with a good book and a piping hot beverage.

This year especially, I hope we will heed the lessons of Autumn. Mother Earth has much to teach us if we will only slow down and take the time to listen.

Blessings to you during this beautiful season.

The True Joy of Life is the Trip

Sooner or later we must realize there is no station, no one place to arrive at once and for all. The true joy of life is the trip. — Robert J. Hastings

Have you ever put all your energy into a goal, only to be disappointed when it was achieved? Do you hope to someday arrive at a destination in life never to quite make it? What has brought you the most joy on the journey of your life? Think about it. Feel free to journal or share you thoughts in the comments below.

What You Can Create

“Instead of worrying about what you cannot control, shift your energy to what you can create.”― Roy T. Bennett, The Light in the Heart

The duration of this pandemic has definitely been a time of great worry. But is has also been a time of great creation. We have learned new ways of doing things from working from home to educating children. We have also seen new ways of connecting with each other that we would not have thought of without the push of COVID. Some of us have been exploring new ways of creative expression through art, music or writing while others have been cooking and baking bread.

We can sit around worrying about what is beyond our control or we can move forward and create something new. What have you been creating?

Building Bridges

“Patriotism is love of country. But you can’t love your country without loving your countrymen and countrywomen. We don’t always have to agree, but we must empower each other, we must find the common ground, we must build bridges across our differences to pursue the common good.” — Cory Booker
