Bob is also joining me on Facebook today at 1 pm to talk about this new project of his. Please join us at http://facebook.com/espirational for this discussion. It will be made available for viewing afterward if you miss it.
In case you missed it this is the video of me cooking sweet and sour chicken in my kitchen here at home. If you see this on Sunday 1/21/2018 there is still time to get a free copy of The Gluten Free Good Life from the Kindle Store.
This was shared at the Sugar and Spice Link Party. Check it out!
Today begins a series on the benefits of yoga. I am kicking this series off here on Espirational as well as on Facebook Live. I will begin by giving a bit of background on the practice of yoga here. Then please join me at 10:00 AM Central Time at https://www.facebook.com/espirational/ for my yoga story — up close and personal. You can even ask questions if you like.
Let me start by saying that yoga is not just another form of physical exercise. If you are in a fitness based yoga practice I invite you to explore a little into the deeper teachings of yoga.
Yoga comes from a sanskrit word meaning to yoke, to join, or union. It is an ancient practice that actually predates Hinduism. It is not a religion. Yoga is passed on from teacher to student. This is why your yoga teacher may mention teachers in their lineage and their teachers lineage.
The physical postures are only one of the 8 Limbs of Yoga. This is a brief summary of the 8 Limbs of Yoga.
Yama : Universal morality (outer observances) There are 5 Yamas.
Brahmacharya: Continence (concerns non-productive use of energy)
Aparigraha: Non-possessiveness, non-hoarding
Niyama : Inner observances There are 5 Niyamas
Saucha or shaucha: Purity or cleanliness.
Tapas: Disclipline, intense committment
Svadhyaya: The study of one’s self
Ishvara Pranidhana: Surrendering to God
Asana: Body postures
Pranayama : Breathing exercises, and control of prana
Pratyahara : Control of the senses
Dharana : Concentration and cultivating inner perceptual awareness
Dhyana : Devotion, Meditation on the Divine
Samadhi : Union with the Divine
These eight steps of yoga are a pathway that leads to physical, ethical, emotional, and psycho-spiritual health. Yoga does not change us, it simply allows the total health and integration that are our natural state to come forth.
There are a variety of types and styles of yoga being taught throughout the world. There is no one size fits all yoga practice that will work for everyone. Some of the styles you may encounter range from the more rigorous Astanga, Bikram, or Vinyasa to the basic postures or Hatha to the calmer, more relaxing Restorative or Yin to the blending of spiritual and physical practices in Kundalini as well as many other styles there is something that will meet your needs. Keep looking if your first try just doesn’t work for you.
I strive daily to follow the yogic path. Want to here my story? Meet me on Facebook live at 10 AM. It will be available to watch later if you don’t catch it live.
Tomorrow (4/11/2017) I will be live on Facebook at 10 A.M. Central Time. The topic will the deeper meaning of the resurrection and should last 10-15 minutes. Hope to see you there! Please share this information with anyone you think may be interested.
If you have a suggestion for a better time for future broadcasts please leave a comment.
We all need to remember to check in from time to time. Check in with God, ourselves, family, pets, friends. This was the topic for a recent Espirational Live segment on Facebook. If you missed it please go to the Espirational Facebook Page and scroll down to the second video to watch this.
I am thinking about switching up the monthly live broadcasts a bit. In keeping with the 10 Minute Vacation for the Soul idea I’m considering trying out brief very focused topics, such as giving a few comments on things like the Thought for Today, one of the 10 tools for resisting fear, my personal daily practice or even maybe my art. I would also like some feedback on the best time of day to go live with these. Of course you can always watch the replay later, but it is fun to know people are watching live.
So what do you think? Please let me know in the comments section below.
Tomorrow (Tuesday, 1/31/2016) I will be live on Facebook. I am not preparing a formal “talk” as such, but right now I plan on addressing fear and how we respond to the craziness in the wold right now. But who knows what will be happening then that might change my mind.
This is still in the trial stage but I’m thinking maybe we will go live once a month. I promise it will not always be as serious as tomorrows talk might be.
So I will see you tomorrow (Tuesday) at 2PM Central Time. https://www.facebook.com/espirational/ If you cannot make if for the live event you can always watch it later on Facebook.
