“It is easy to imagine that the Buddha, the awakened one, is something or somewhere other than here or that awakening to reality will happen sometime other than now. But as long as we continue to think in terms of time we will deceive ourselves. The you who is chasing enlightenment will never become enlightened.
“Instead of striving towards some distant goal that you will never reach, I invite you to stop and ask: How am I avoiding the enlightenment that is already present in each moment? How am I seeing separation where it doesn’t exist?”
Have you heard people calling 2020 a “lost” year or “the year that wasn’t?” Do you believe that?
We had high hopes for this year didn’t we? Perhaps higher than normal. After all this is 2020 the year of clear vision. And that is exactly what we are getting. Not in the way we expected, but it is happening.
On the physical level with pollution levels down in cities sights are being seen that have not been visible for years. Here at the lake we are seeing the return of birds that have not been here for several years. Being at home many families are spending more time together and seeing each other in a new light. People are beginning to awaken spiritually. Here in the US, blinders are coming off as the divisions in our country and crimes committed based on the victims race, nationality or creed are now painfully apparent.
So is this a lost year? Only if we make it so. This is the year of clear vision. We are finally seeing things we have been refusing to see. We have the opportunity to correct our vision. Will we act on what we are seeing?

“Once the soul awakens, the search begins and you can never go back. From then on, you are inflamed with a special longing that will never again let you linger in the lowlands of complacency and partial fulfillment. The eternal makes you urgent. You are loath to let compromise or the threat of danger hold you back from striving toward the summit of fulfillment.”
“The spiritual journey is individual, highly personal. It can’t be organized or regulated. It isn’t true that everyone should follow one path. Listen to your own truth.”
“That is the real spiritual awakening, when something emerges from within you that is deeper than who you thought you were. So, the person is still there, but one could almost say that something more powerful shines through the person.”
Wouldn’t it be nice if awakening were this mystical/magical kind of thing that happens all at once and everything from that point on is smooth sailing? If you are waiting for that to happen you may be missing out on where Spirit is trying to lead you.
Sometimes awakening gets messy. As your thoughts and beliefs begin to change your whole world can get turned upside down. And the world may continue to be upside down as awakening is not a one-time event. It is a process, a path, and a way of life as we continue to awaken and learn to live in the awakened state.
We are seeing that right now in our world as there is a mass awakening, as well as mass resistance and push back against the awakening. Where will this take us?
Life gets messy sometimes. So does spiritual awakening. The awakening process does not take us out of the world as it is. But if we listen to Spirit we will learn new ways of living in the world. If we stay engaged in the process and continue to awaken we will be a light shining in the world and an example to others. This is what will change the world.
