“Prayer is not a way of making use of God; prayer is a way of offering ourselves to God in order that He should be able to make use of us.  It may be one of our great faults in Prayer that we talk too much and listen too little.  When prayer is at its highest we wait in silence for God’s voice to us: we linger in His presence for His peace and His power to flow over us and around us; we lean back in His everlasting arms and feel the serenity of perfect security in Him.” — William Barclay

The World’s Gone Crazy…

… but I’m okay.  That’s the name of this art quilt.

I love crazy quilts.  I have made some very “properly Victorian” looking ones, but sometimes I go a little “crazy” pardon the pun.  The crazy quilt is a great vehicle for all kinds of social, political and personal commentary.

If we surround ourselves with the light and protection of God, the world can go crazy all around us while we remain grounded and at peace.

You shine like a beacon in a dark world*

If you regularly find yourself in a setting that feels out of sync with your spiritual nature, here’s a thought:

Your life isn’t always about you. Sometimes it’s about what you were put here to teach others.

For over 3 years I worked in a predominantly military organization. Basement cubicle. No windows. 80% of the workforce dressed in fatigues. Nonstop focus on war.

I felt so totally out of place and wondered how a new Age, peace-loving child like me ended up there. Then it hit me. I was having a quiet influence on my co-workers. First they observed, then commented on, then adopted my odd holistic practices. They asked questions, eager to learn more.

One small candle can light up a dark room. Be a beacon.

Keep on the Sunny Side

You may have guessed by now that music is an important part of life for the two of us.  Music speaks directly to the soul.  Words hitch a ride on catchy tunes or inspiring melodies and we never forget.  You know how an advertising jingle gets stuck in your mind and keeps replaying over and over?  Annoying isn’t it?  Well we can use the same concept to make important spiritual concepts a part of our lives and to help maintain a positive attitude as well.

Be careful of the music you listen to.  Use music as tool to learn and remember truth, beauty, positivity and the spiritual life.  Let’s start with this reminder to Keep on the Sunny Side of Life.  This one is bound to make you smile.
