A Cloudy Sunrise

At six this morning I walked down to the water for morning yoga. It was cloudy but as I looked toward the east there was a big splash of color just over the horizon and under the clouds. I continued to watch the sky during my morning pratice as the sun began to be visible then disappeared behind the clouds.

After watching cloudy sunrises for a couple of weeks now I have discovered that they have their own unique beauty and that the color that does manage to peek through is even more intense. One morning there was heavy mist over the water and the sun in all it’s glory appeared in front of the clouds.

I no longer have a camera that takes good sky shots. I tried to take one with my cell phone last week, but it didn’t capture the colors. But maybe thats a good thing because instead of trying to get the perfect photo I could just sit and immerse myself in the experience.

So the next time you see a sunrise take the time to sit with it. Breathe in. Breathe out. Take in the peace, the quiet and the beauty.

The Friday Affirmation

I put my life in the hands of perfect love and divine wisdom.

The Greatness of God

“I understand once again that the greatness of God always reveals itself in the simple things.” – Paulo Coelho

We Practice for Everyone

“To practice is not to practice for ourselves alone. We practice for everyone. We should be proud to say, Violence, it may come from somewhere else, but not from me. Hatred, discrimination, it may come from somewhere else, but not from me.”
― Thich Nhat Hanh, The Ultimate Dimension: An Advanced Dharma Retreat on the Avatamsaka and Lotus Sutras

Magic Things

“The world is full of magic things, patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper.” – W.B. Yeats

A Path of Your Own

“You create a path of your own by looking within yourself and listening to your soul, cultivating your own ways of experiencing the sacred and then practicing it. Practicing until you make it a song that sings you.” ~ Sue Monk Kidd, The Dance of the Dissident Daughter

Cultivate That Precious Sacred Nature

“When you reflect on the infinite number of happenstances that coalesced to produce you, then you understand how unique, how precious, how sacred you really are. Your task is to cultivate that precious, sacred nature and help it to flower.”
― Robert Aitken, Encouraging Words: Zen Buddhist Teachings for Western Students

Fruit of our Spiritual Lives

“Our compassion is the fruit of our spiritual lives; it actually arises spontaneously when formed by intention in our spiritual practice. Love and compassion are always the goods of the spiritual journey, and they are guided by divine wisdom, which then shapes compassion in the concrete situations of our existence.”
~ Wayne Teasdale

The Friday Affirmation

I am divinely led, guided and inspired.

A Divine Spark

“We have in us a divine spark that you can see. It’s a Light that shines in the human being. It’s our direct access to truth, our direct access to God. The purpose of all the spiritual practices that exist are to awaken that sparkto give it life, to give it energy, so that it can transform you. One of the energies that comes from that spark is Love.” ~ Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee
