“Just as your car runs more smoothly and requires less energy to go faster and farther when the wheels are in perfect alignment, you perform better when your thoughts, feelings, emotions, goals, and values are in balance.” — Brian Tracy
Everywhere we turn today someone is talking about the Law of Attraction, a universal law that in a nutshell says that what we put out into the universe comes back to us. It works for anyone regardless of intent and can be used for good or evil.
The Law of Attraction applies to all of life, not just money. I see the current emphasis on using this universal law for financial gain as a dangerous game causing people to feel inadequate and see themselves as failures if they do not have lots of money. How many blog posts focus on financial success and perceived moral failings of those who do not achieve it? Do we really believe wonderful, caring, creative people who use their gifts to help others without focusing on accumulating personal wealth are failures?
In the Christian Scriptures we are promised our needs will be provided, not that we will have unimaginable material wealth. In our mad search for “success” and wealth have we lost track of what really matters? How many families have suffered? How many children lose their way because parents are too busy working to teach and care for them? How many see faith as how much money they give to the church rather than how much time they spend with the Creator?
Search your heart, pray, meditate and set your priorities. Dare to be different. Dare to care about others more than becoming a millionaire. Do what you love and the money will follow.
… but I’m okay. That’s the name of this art quilt.

I love crazy quilts. I have made some very “properly Victorian” looking ones, but sometimes I go a little “crazy” pardon the pun. The crazy quilt is a great vehicle for all kinds of social, political and personal commentary.
If we surround ourselves with the light and protection of God, the world can go crazy all around us while we remain grounded and at peace.

“Nonviolence is not a garment to be put on and off at will. Its seat is in the heart, and it must be an inseparable part of our very being.” Mahatma Gandhi

You shine like a beacon in a dark world*

If you regularly find yourself in a setting that feels out of sync with your spiritual nature, here’s a thought:
Your life isn’t always about you. Sometimes it’s about what you were put here to teach others.
For over 3 years I worked in a predominantly military organization. Basement cubicle. No windows. 80% of the workforce dressed in fatigues. Nonstop focus on war.
I felt so totally out of place and wondered how a new Age, peace-loving child like me ended up there. Then it hit me. I was having a quiet influence on my co-workers. First they observed, then commented on, then adopted my odd holistic practices. They asked questions, eager to learn more.
One small candle can light up a dark room. Be a beacon.
