“Creativity is just connecting things. When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they didn’t really do it, the just saw something. It seemed obvious to them after a while”
All this month we are celebrating the Grand Opening of our Espirational Gallery. I will be talking about my creative process for a few of my works throughout the month. I decided to start with The World’s Gone Crazy, but I’m Okay.
The Story Behind The World’s Gone Crazy, But I’m Okay.
I consider all of my work spiritual even if it may not have an overtly spiritual theme. But The World’s Gone Crazy is definitely and obviously spiritual.
While living in the city, before we moved to the lake I was world weary. Waking up every morning to the news of more violence and death I was becoming overwhelmed and afraid. I was saying “The Prayer for Protection a lot during those days and finally decided to try to put my feelings into art.
What I came up with was the world going crazy (the background is loosely a “crazy quilt”) while I was in the middle of it all surrounded by the White Light of God’s Presence knowing that
“The LIght of God Surrounds me.
The Love of God Enfolds me.
The Power of God Protects me.
The presence of God Watches Over me.
Wherever I am God is.”
— James Dillet Freeman
This piece is available for sale in the Espirational Gallery. Proceeds from the sale of my work help support the Espirational online ministry.
Have you ever noticed how much of life is about just showing up.? Can you think of good things in your life that happened because you just showed up?
Some of my best photographs happened because I dragged myself out of bed and down to the lake before 6 AM to watch the sunrise. Some of the best conversations have come from chance meetings with friends or complete strangers because we happened to be in the same place at the same time. I even met my husband by taking a chance and showing up for a new job.
Be open to life, show up and hang on. You are in for an adventure.
Most of us believe some people are born with special “gifts” of creativity and some aren’t. Right? This couldn’t be farther from the truth. Created in the image and likeness of the Creator of the Universe we are all creative by nature. It is our birthright. We create with our words, our thoughts and our actions.
We create with our words and thoughts without even realizing it. This is why we must be careful with what we think and say. We may create something we really do not want.
Creating with our thoughts and words is very important, but the world also needs us to take creative action. Not all of us are going to be artists, writers or do other work considered creative but the creative spark and the potential for creating good in the world still exists in us all. Some are researchers using creative thinking to develop new ideas and ways of doing things. Some may even find cures for diseases. Some are teachers coming up with new ways to reach and teach their students. Some are parents, one of the most creatively demanding jobs out there. Some are people with food allergies and intolerance coming up with new ways of eating.
Creativity is our birthright, but living our creativity takes courage. In a world where conformity is often valued more highly, daring to live creatively can result in rejection, ridicule and sometime even punishment. Anyone who has ever been “written up” or fired from a job for thinking “outside the box” knows what I am talking about. Many artist’s whose work is considered of great financial and artistic value today did not achieve fame in their own lifetime, with some dying in poverty and obscurity.
Creativity is not something we save for “special occasions.” We can make our daily lives happier, more fulfilled and even more productive by living creatively. We can even create change and make life better for ourselves, our families and the world.
This month I am going to talk about my art and my creative process. But this is not where my creativity stops. It gets called on every single day in my life as a homemaker, caregiver and friend.
Creativity is our birthright. We create whether we realize it our not. The time has come to stop denying who we are and begin consciously using our creative “powers” for good. Together we can change the world.
The Espirational question for June is:
Do you consider yourself creative? Why or why not?
Please take a minute to think about this and leave you answer in the comments below.
Each month we post news about the inspirational things going on in our Espirational Family at https://espirational.net/espirational-happenings/. We also include links to articles or websites we feel are the best in covering our monthly theme or creative Espirational lifestyle in general. This is new and is our monthly “newsletter,” only we do not send it out to you. It will appear at https://espirational.net/espirational-happenings/ each month. If you want to receive it in your e-mail box, please follow espirational.net (see right-hand column of any of our pages for our follow button).
Don’t worry this is a new addition to the Espirational family. It is not replacing everything and nothing is going away. We will still be here at Espirational.com with you daily Inspiration.
We have worked very hard on this and have high hopes for it increasing our outreach. Please help us spread the word by sharing with your friends.
