God Calls Us All

Many of us think of a “calling” or being called by God as something reserved for certain special people. Being brought up Baptist I believed that myself. It took a lot of time and heartache, but over these sixy-some years of my life I have learned God calls us all. Not in a big dramatic way, but in gentle whispers and nudges.

Right now I believe we are all being called to rise higher. We may not be in professional church ministry but we can all turn from the ways of the world and lean into that presence of God which longs for us to recognize our oneness with God and each other.

Finally I have realized my calling is to live the God presence and shine my light in the world. Now what that looks like being lived out in the world, is still sometimes a mystery to me. Living through the chaos of what seems like the world as we know it coming to an end is not easy. I often feel like I need to do something. But what I really need to be something. The presence of God shining light into this dark world. Will you join me?

The photo today is one of the journals I make decorate with original cover designs. They are all different. I originally made these to sell and sold 2 or 3. But I like to make these so I kept on. Finally I decided to start giving these as birthday gifts to friends and neighbors. The reactions to these gifts have completely surprised me. A few have grumbled but most have been really excited and there have been many smiles and a few tears.

When I stopped being afraid that we were going to starve if I couldn’t sell my artwork and began to share my gifts freely with others my life began to change. We all have gifts to share with the world. They do not have to be tangible material gifts, but making other feel seen and appreciated in even small ways are often the greatest gives we can offer.
