I thought this beautiful song from Peter Mayer was perfect for our theme of sacred ground. May the music carry the message deep into your heart.

Let’s get real here. Walking a spiritual path is not for the faint of heart. If you care about and see God in people and nature you are going to get your heart broken. It will happen.
It has happened to me several times in the last month. I live in a senior community in the woods. The destruction of wildlife habitat and human suffering are common.
There have been several incidents of both within the last month. When the most recent one involved a friend I was heart broken. I shut down for a day or two and stayed inside feeling very sad.
Finally, I went down to the lake at sunrise and sat on the dock. When I went within seeking guidance all I heard was “shine your light.” Although that was not what I wanted to hear, I was comforted. I may not be able to stop damage to the earth or my sisters and brothers on this journey with me. But I can shine my light the best I can, stay on the path and keep on walking.
Too many people in our world are closing their hearts and shutting down. I believe this is leading to many of the problems we see today. So I will do my best to keep my heart open, keep on caring, even if it means being hurt and keep on shining the light of God in this dark old world. Will you join me? It won’t be easy, but it is our calling as sons and daughters of God.

“If you have been in the vicinity of the sacred – ever brushed against the holy – you retain it more in your bones than in your head; and if you haven’t, no description of the experience will ever be satisfactory.”
― Daniel Taylor, In Search of Sacred Places: Looking for Wisdom on Celtic Holy Islands

“The calm within the storm is where peace lives and breathes. It is not within perfect circumstances or a charmed life… it is not conditional. Peace is a sacred space within, it is the temple of our internal landscape. We are free to visit it, whenever we seek sanctuary. Underneath the chaos of everyday living, peace is patiently awaiting our discovery. . . go within.”

“Study how water flows in a valley stream, smoothly and freely between the rocks. Also learn from holy books and wise people. Everything – even mountains, rivers, plants and trees – should be your teacher.” — Morihei Ueshiba

“It is well to have specifically holy places, and things, and days, for, without these focal points or reminders, the belief that all is holy and ‘big with God’ will soon dwindle into a mere sentiment. But if these holy places, things, and days cease to remind us, if they obliterate our awareness that all ground is holy and every bush (could we but perceive it) a Burning Bush, then the hallows begin to do harm.”
— C.S. Lewis (Letters to Malcolm: Chiefly on Prayer)
