Have you ever been to the orchard where apples are grown? Check to see if there is an orchard that sells direct to the public in your area. Whether you pick your own or buy already picked this a good way to teach children about where their food comes from.
This is something Bob and I used to do around the time of our anniversary. We bought a box and then I took them home and made applesauce. There is nothing better than homemade applesauce.
“When you commit yourself to living love, you feel at peace with yourself because you are at harmony with the flow of life. Viewing life from the highest perspective, you feel confident and secure. You realize that no matter how things may appear, you are loved and protected. You know you are one with God, and you bring your peace with you wherever you go. You’re not looking for love, but for opportunities to love.” — Susan L. Taylor [Source: http://livinglifefully.com/people/susanltaylor.htm%5D
I have found that people tend to have trouble staying with lifestyle changes if they are simply making changes because they are told to. Feeling forced to do something (even if to save your life) or blind obedience to a set of rules often brings about rebellion.
It is important that we truly understand what we are being called to change and why. So where do you begin?
1. Learn everything you can about why you are being called to make this change. Do your research, then sit with the information for awhile. Let it become part of you.
2. Look at the consequences of not making changes.
3. Realize that you do have a choice. Are you willing to live with the consequences of not changing?
4. Embrace the change. Welcome it into your life. Make if a part of who you are.
Once you can reach a point of choosing health and life and not feeling forced to do something against your will, life will become much easier. Remember you always have a choice.
We live on the pelican migration route. For the last few weeks the people in our community have been asking each other “Are the pelicans here yet?” There had been sightings on larger areas of the lake but none had been spotted here — until this past weekend. Bob and I spent about an hour Saturday afternoon watching a small group of pelicans fly in and swim by our favorite bench on the beach. What a wonderful way to spend the afternoon.

When I say we are “retired” I mean we no longer work for someone else and we no longer receive regular paychecks. We still work. We word on various writing, art and research projects. But we are so blessed to be able to take the time to enjoy nature and the company of others in our community. Taking time to watch pelicans swim or to actually talk to our neighbors is priceless.

If you live where there is beautiful fall foliage be sure to get out and look at it. Whether a drive through your own neighborhood, an older part of town with large trees, a park, through hills or mountains, or just down a country road a fall leaf tour is a fun and relaxing activity.
Take your time. This is not something to be rushed through. Pack a lunch and make a day of it. Take the kids along and help them identify the types of trees by the leaves. You may even want to collect a few leaves for craft projects.
