Thought for Today and a Few of My Own

“If you ask me what I came to do in this world, I, an artist, will answer you: I am here to live out loud.”
Émile Zola

It’s been awhile since I’ve commented on a quote, but this one hit me right in the heart.  It can be easy to be intimidated and overwhelmed by people who think they know everything, but do not understand people who are different or the concept that different it not necessarily “bad.”  This is something I have been dealing with for the last two years and have to admit to at times giving in to fear.

When I sneeze I don’t try to keep in it, I just let it fly.  Recently after a sneeze a woman walked by me and said “bless you.”  She continued to say “That’s the way to sneeze loud and proud.”

Reading todays quote I realized that like some people try to hold in a sneeze I have been trying to hold in my own truth  out of fear.  So here we go.  Today is the day to commit to consciously living out loud, both in my art and my daily walk through life, just like I sneeze.

you aren’t enjoying the dream.”

Time to Kill the Fatted Pumpkin

I just finished killing the fatted pumpkin today and decided to share this oldie but goodie post from the past. If you have never tasted fresh pumpkin you don’t know what you’re missing — it’s different from canned.  I’ve also added this post to the Sugar and Spice Link Party.

Apple Pickin’

Bob and I are celebrating our wedding anniversary today.  Believe it or not, over the last 25 years driving as far as 60 miles to an orchard to buy apples has more than once been  our anniversary celebration.

Have you ever been to an orchard where apples are grown? Check to see if there is an orchard that sells direct to the public in your area. Whether you pick your own or buy already picked this a good way to teach children about where their food comes from.

But the best part is eating the apples.  Buy a box or two and make applesauce, your favorite apple cake or pie or how about freezing some apple slices for pie later?  Don’t forget a plain old fresh apple makes a great healthy dessert or snack.
