“The air is like a butterfly
With frail blue wings.
The happy earth looks at the sky
And sings.”

“Don’t knock the weather: nine-tenths of the people couldn’t start a conversation if it didn’t change once in a while.”
–  Kin Hubbard

I love this quote!  I know there are people who think talking about the weather is trivial, trite and superficial.  But I see talking about the weather as a door opener.  It gets people talking about something.  Talking about the weather might lead to “how are you doing?”  After awhile of “fine” you might get an answer that goes a little deeper like “I’ve been sick.”  Or maybe something like, “I’m so happy right now, my kids are coming to visit.”  Both lead to conversation that lets you get to know the person a little better.  It may take years to get to a deeper level, but building relationships takes time.

So go out there and start talking about the weather.  You might be surprised where it leads you.

“I’ve learned that fear limits you and your vision. It serves as blinders to what may be just a few steps down the road for you. The journey is valuable, but believing in your talents, your abilities, and your self-worth can empower you to walk down an even brighter path. Transforming fear into freedom – how great is that?”— Soledad O’Brien

“A great many people (not you) do now seem to think that the mere state of being worried is in itself meritorious.  I don’t think it is.  We must, if it so happens, give our lives for others: but even while we’re doing it, I think we’re meant to enjoy Our Lord and, in Him, our friends, our food, our sleep, our jokes, and the birds’ song and the frosty sunrise.”  C. S. Lewis

Just for Fun: Trying to Decide on a Baby Name?

If you are expecting and trying to come up with a name for the baby, help may come from an unexpected source — The Social Security Administration. According to a press release on Friday, May 12, 2017 by Mark Hinkle, Acting Press Officer, “The agency began compiling the baby name list in 1997, with names dating back to 1880. At the time of a child’s birth, parents supply the name to the agency when applying for a child’s Social Security card, thus making Social Security America’s source for the most popular baby names.”

So what were the top names for 2016?  Noah and Emma. To see the entire top 10 list as well as to search for other popular baby names visit https://www.ssa.gov/oact/babynames.  They also have information on getting the new arrivals Social Security number.

Thanks to Bob for forwarding the interesting little tidbit to me.  🙂
