I think it is important that we rebuild an atmosphere of forgiveness and civility in every aspect of our lives.  — T.D. Jakes

Choose Carefully

We cannot always choose what happens to us. But we can always choose our thoughts and how we react to what happens to us. Remember to choose wisely.

Choose Love

Choose Hope

Choose Faith

Choose Peace

Choose Light

Choose Life

Thought for Today

“The one thing you can’t take away from me is the way I choose to respond to what you do to me. The last of one’s freedoms is to choose one’s attitude in any given circumstance.” ― Viktor E. Frankl

Better than a thousand hollow words
Is one word that brings peace.
Better than a thousand hollow verses
Is one verse that brings peace.
Better than a hundred hollow lines
Is one line of the law, bringing peace.
Gautama Buddha in “The Thousands” from the Dhammapada as translated by Thomas Byrom http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Peace

“The moment I have realized God sitting in the temple of every human body, the moment I stand in reverence before every human being and see God in him – that moment I am free from bondage, everything that binds vanishes, and I am free.” — Swami Vivekananda

Being of God

I love good preaching.  Recently I heard a sermon that was beautiful in it’s simplicity in explaining what for many can be a difficult truth to grasp.  The preacher was Rev. Dr. John Philip Newell, Guest Minister at First Plymouth Church in Lincoln, NE.  I invite you to click on the link and enjoy Dr. Newell’s sermon.

Healthy Living A to Z: H is for Herbs

Do you know the difference between and an herb and a spice? Herbs are leaves and flowers of plants and include basil, rosemary, parsley, thyme, and varieties of mint among others. Spices are seeds, roots, stems or barks of plants and include things like cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg and pepper. They are often used interchangeably to mean the same thing.

One of my favorite uses for herbs is cooking. Two of my favorites are basil and rosemary. Herbs are a good way to increase flavor while reducing the use of salt.

Herbs also have medicinal properties. Herbal medicine (also known as “herbalism”) is the study and use of medicinal properties of plants and may date to before recorded history. The use of plants as medicine has led to the development of many of our modern drugs.

Of course you should always consult your health care provider before using medicinal herbs but be prepared for him or her to not be familiar with herbs or their interactions with drugs. You might want to find some educational materials to direct them to for more information.
