Last week Bob and I were sitting on a bench by the lake at sunset as we often do. That night the sunset was complex, changing and very interesting as Mother Earth went through various forms, shapes, colors and cloud formations. I took several versions of the photo above focusing on a gold outline within on of the clouds. Days later when I finally loaded the photos on the computer I did not see the gold sparkle, but I did see something else — a hand reaching down out of the clouds. On Facebook my sister-in-law called this the hand of God.
It may not be often that we see a physical representation of the hand of God in this particular way, but if we look carefully we can see the hand of God at work all around us. The sunrise allowing us to start over each day, the sunset promising tomorrow, the kindness of strangers, a smile, babies, rainbows, people coming together in times of crisis and tragedy, moments of silent reflection, the beauty of nature — all these and more are visible signs of the work of God on this earth.
Where have you seen the hand of God lately?
