We live in a world full of hate, anger, fear, distrust and violence. This is not the way of God. Too many people have given up and given in saying, “That’s just the way things are.” It may be the way things have become, but it is not the way things are meant to be and we do not have to accept the way things are. We may not be able to change anyone else but we can always change ourselves.
It can be scary trying to live love in a world of fear and hatred. It can be downright terrifying trying to follow the path of peace in a world where it seems like everyone else is armed. It can be extremely frustrating to learn to see God in all people. I know. I live with all these feelings too.
But beloved, we are called to a higher way. It is time to stop listening to the rhetoric designed to make us afraid, angry and cause us to turn on each other, no matter where it comes from — even from the President or the pastor. Start saying yes to love and no to fear. That’s it.
Center your thoughts on what is true, honest, just, pure, lovely, of good report, virtuous, and worthy of praise. Live your life in the light and love of God and shine that life and love out into the world.
So how does that change the world? Well it changes the world because people will notice. They will notice you are different. We live in a world where difference is often not readily accepted so at least in the beginning you can expect to be ridiculed, demeaned and even bullied. But if you refuse to give up or give in and continue to live in love and shine your light one day you will notice that people smile when they see you, they might even ask questions about your way of life.
The way to change the world is not by destroying those who are not like us or do not agree with us. Arming ourselves with guns is not the answer. I think that is becoming obvious. Violence only creates more violence.
Now is the time to change our minds, thoughts, words and actions and change the world. Love is the answer.
