Irises were a special flower to my mother, and my late father’s pet name for her was Iris, which always made both of them grin like teenagers (her name was Jacqueline, and he usually called her Jack or Jackie). Though she never shared the back story with anyone but my father, now that she is gone I like to think that every time I trip across white irises – online or i nature – she is looking down on me from heaven and smiling.
Loved the Anna Quindlen quote as well – thank you for sharing.
