The Wednesday Word

Todays word is laughter. When is the last time you had a good full out laugh? The kind that rises up spontaneously and frees your soul.

Years ago, about a month after I had left a job that had become unbearable my former supervisor called me. She started telling jokes, one after the other. When I finally laughed she said, I miss that cackle of yours. No one around here laughs anymore.

Sometimes that seems to describe the world we live in now, doesn’t it? Now I’m not talking about laughing at people, making fun of or belittling them. We have way to much of that right now. I’m talking about the pure laugh that spills out from a happy heart.

I believe we can still change this world we live in. It starts with simple things. Like bringing back laughter. If laughing is too hard for you right now, start with a smile, then maybe a little giggle and then work up to a full, spontaneous joyful laugh.

The Friday Affirmation

“I trust in my inner wisdom and intuition.”

This is an ongoing lesson for me and it hasn’t been an easy one. Intuition is something I have been afraid of for a long time due to a family member who used it to control others.

It has taken me a long time to realize our inner wisdom and intuition are meant to guide us. When used with grace and mercy these gifts will lead and guide us along life’s path if we calm and center ourselves, asking for Divine guidance.

The Wednesday Word

Today’s word us grace. One of the definitions from Meriam Webster is disposition to or an act or instance of kindness, courtesy, or clemency. The world would begin to change overnight if we all started showing grace to each other through thoughts, words and actions of kindness, courtesy and mercy. Let it begin with me.

Sunday Inspiration

I have to admit I am a winter person. I love the snow and a good reason to stay inside, all warm and cozy wrapped up in a blanket sipping hot cocoa. But this year I was ready for spring. With all the darkness we have been dealing with here in the U.S. and around the world I am more than ready for spring and the earth coming back to life. I am writing this about a month before it posts and will be going outside to plant my flowers in pots when I am finished here.

The Friday Affirmation

I affirm and encourage others as I do myself.

The Wednesday Word: Retreat

Todays word is retreat.  You may have been on a retreat at some time in your life.  Either going to a quiet place for prayer and meditation or with a group with organized classes or programs.  If you are an artist perhaps you have gone away to find inspiration and time to create.

I live in an area where people come to vacation.  Yet even I feel the need to escape for awhile.  Since we do not have a car that can be difficult and I do get overwhelmed.

This year as we approach vacation season I have decided to retreat inside.  I told Bob this of my plans this morning to stay away from the front window, to get back to consistent meditation and Tai Chi practices and to stay away from the news and try to create some meaningful artwork.

I have become overwhelmed by feeling that I need to do something about the state of the world but there is nothing I can do.  But I finally decided that for my own state of mind I needed to step back and go on “retreat.”  I told Bob that even Jesus went out into the desert to get away from the crazies.  He chuckled and said yes he did.

Espirational will continue as usual since I blog ahead and posts are scheduled in advance.  I hope you can find your own way to retreat, rest, reset and commune with God.

Sunday Inspiration

“The solution for mankind is of a spiritual nature. It is not a political or religious solution. It’s the ability to love each other.” –Ziggy Marley

This is a quote from Ziggy Marley that is worth posting on the bathroom mirror. I think we should be able to see by now that political or religious solutions that only serve to divide us more and more are not the answer. The true solution is a spiritual one. Only when we recognize that things will only get better when instead of blaming we start loving each other will the world begin to heal. The problem with this is no one wants to go first. Will you be that brave soul to reach out with love toward your neighbor?

The Friday Affirmation

I am listening and open to the messages the universe has for me today.

The Wednesday Word: Sparkle

Our word for today is sparkle defined as Webster as to give off or reflect bright moving points of light. Don’t you love this word? I do. I love to watch the sun sparkle as it rises. As an artist I love to work with sparkly materials. Things like beads, sequins, sparkly fabric and thread often find their way into my work.

But I hope that not only that my artwork sparkles, but that I do too. May we go through this day giving off and reflecting the points of light that shine through us as the presence of God.
