Today is Election Day here in the U.S. We live in a time when these “United States” are anything but united. I have to admit I am concerned about the consequences of this election. And they will be serious no matter which way the election goes. If Donald Trump wins, we lose our democracy. If he loses, we could face civil war. Many people feel helpless as we watch the unthinkable unfold. It’s reached the point where it can be difficult to even talk to each other.
But I have to remind myself there is always something we can do. We have tools to help us deal with difficult times. First, we can always pray. We can repeat affirmations. We can center and calm ourselves to keep from adding to the anger and confusion going on around us right now. And this one is for me, we can turn off the “news” and stop letting ourselves be manipulated and triggered. Lastly, we must vote. This is not the time to resign ourselves to the worst outcome or the idea there is nothing we can do. If you have not already, get out there and vote.
Finally let us repeat together the following prayer.
Let there be peace.
Peace in my heart
Peace in my mind
Peace in my words
Peace in my actions
Peace in my home
Peace in my neighborhood
Peace in my city
Peace in my country
Peace in the world
Let there be peace
